Jump Start Program Career Education

Jump Start is a new program for school districts, colleges, and businesses to collaborate in providing career courses and workplace experiences to high school students, certifying them for the career fields most likely to lead to high-wage jobs.

Jump Start will be an elective path for students pursuing a university-preparatory diploma, and a required path for students pursuing a Career Diploma.

Jump Start will ensure students access to state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and professionals to prepare during their high school schedules for careers in Louisiana’s high-growth job sectors.  Regional Jump Start teams will identify career opportunities important specifically to each region of the state, for which students may earn industry credentials. By offering credentials that give graduates an advantage in Louisiana’s economy of today and tomorrow, Jump Start will prepare our high school graduates for a productive adulthood.

Equal Access and Discrimination Prevention

Jefferson Davis Parish is committed to providing equal access to and equitable participation in all
Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, services, activities, and opportunities supported in
whole or in part by Perkins V funds.
Jefferson Davis Parish will administer CTE programs without discrimination and will take appropriate
steps to prevent discrimination, harassment, exclusion, or unequal treatment of students and
prospective students. The institution will comply with applicable federal and state civil rights laws and
regulations governing recipients of federal financial assistance, including requirements related to
nondiscrimination and equal educational opportunity.
The institution will ensure that admissions, recruitment, counseling and guidance, program
participation, work-based learning, access to facilities and equipment, instruction, student support
services, and other CTE-related activities are provided on an equitable basis. Particular attention will
be given to identifying and addressing barriers that may limit access to or success in CTE programs
for students in Perkins V special populations.
Jefferson Davis Parish will regularly review enrollment, participation, completion, and performance
data, disaggregated as appropriate, to identify potential disparities in access and outcomes. When
barriers or inequities are identified, the institution will develop and implement appropriate strategies to
address them and will monitor progress toward improvement.
The institution will provide appropriate information, training, technical assistance, and support to
administrators, staff, instructors, and other personnel responsible for CTE programs to promote
compliance with nondiscrimination and equal-access requirements. Students and other individuals
will have access to established procedures for reporting concerns or complaints regarding
discrimination or unequal treatment, and such concerns will be addressed promptly and appropriately.
Through these practices, Jefferson Davis Parish will promote an inclusive CTE environment in which
all eligible students have meaningful opportunities to explore, enter, participate in, and successfully
complete high-quality career and technical education programs.
